Counselling & psychotherapy · Portland, Oregon

You don’t need to have the words yet.

Finding the words is what the room is for. Quiet Practice offers individual therapy, couples counselling, and counselling for teenagers — and a two-minute check to help you find the right place to start.

A gentle place to begin

Is this right for me?

Four small questions, no right answers and nothing recorded. Your answers land you on the service that fits what you described — a real page you can read, share, or come back to.

Question 1 of 4

Who would the sessions be for?

A signpost, not a diagnosis: this check only helps you choose a starting point, and it is no substitute for a proper conversation. If nothing quite fits, email me a few lines about what is going on and I will point you somewhere good — even if it is not here.

How it starts

Three small steps, no forms

  1. Say hello

Call or email in whatever words you have. “I think I need to talk to someone” is plenty.

  2. A free fifteen-minute call

We talk about what is going on and whether I am the right fit. If I am not, I will say so and suggest someone who is.

  3. Your first session

Unhurried, confidential, and yours. By the third session we will have a shared plan that you have agreed to.

Asked often

Honest answers first

Do you take insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider. You pay per session and I give you a monthly superbill to send to your insurer — many PPO plans reimburse 50 to 80 percent of the fee. I also hold a few reduced-fee places for people paying entirely out of pocket. Asking about money is a normal part of a first call.

How long will therapy take?

Honestly: it depends, and you will never be strung along. We review how it is going together every six weeks or so. Some people come for twelve sessions around one clear thing; some stay a year because the work keeps earning its place. You can stop whenever you want, and a good last session is worth having.

Is what we talk about confidential?

Yes, with the standard legal limits: risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else, abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, or a court order. For teenagers, we agree at the very start what stays private and what I will always share with parents — safety concerns, always; diary-level detail, never.

What if the check points me to the wrong service?

Then nothing is lost. The check is a signpost, not a verdict — the free intro call is where we confirm fit, and people move between individual, couples, and teen work all the time. Start anywhere; starting is the hard part.

When you are ready

The door is easy to knock on

There is no intake portal and no phone tree — you reach me directly. Get in touch in whichever way feels lighter today, and we will take it from there.

I answer every call and email myself, within two working days — usually sooner.
